PRO SERIES · Ducted Split System

Wine Guardian SP25 Pro Ducted Split System for 250 to 2,000 Cubic Foot Cellars

The Wine Guardian SP25 Pro ducted split is a two-piece wine cellar cooling system, a ductable fan coil plus a separate remote condensing unit, rated by Wine Guardian at 3,485 BTU/h total at 80°F condenser inlet air for cellars of 250 to 2,000 cubic feet.

Splitting the system is what buys the flexibility: the condensing unit goes where its heat and noise are welcome, the fan coil sits outside the wine room and ducts cooled air in, and the two are joined by a refrigerant line set of up to 50 feet. That is the configuration to reach for when a mechanical room is too tight for a single-box unit, when condenser air has nowhere to exhaust, or when the duct run is long.

Pro is a tier inside Wine Guardian's Sentinel Series rather than a separate line. On the SP25 it means 24 volt controls that an external thermostat or a building management system can drive, high and low pressure switches, a service sight glass, and an optional Extreme Climate Protection Bundle for cold-climate condenser locations. Wine Guardian manufactures the system and handles warranty and service; this store is an authorized Wine Guardian dealer, and the SP25 is configured and quoted rather than sold from a fixed online price. Final sizing, ductwork and electrical design should be confirmed by a licensed HVAC professional.

Watch How a Split System Works

A Wine Guardian split system keeps the compressor out of the wine room: the condensing unit rejects heat elsewhere while the fan coil ducts cooled air into the cellar.

  • Fan coil and condensing unit mount in separate locations
  • Condenser heat and compressor noise leave the wine room entirely
  • Refrigerant line set up to 50 feet on the SP25
  • 24 volt control, so an external thermostat can drive the system

Fit Check

Is the SP25 the Right Split Wine Cellar Cooling System for Your Space?

The SP25 is the right split wine cellar cooling system when the cellar sits inside Wine Guardian's 250 to 2,000 cubic foot range and the condensing unit can be placed within 50 feet of the fan coil. Outside either of those two limits, a different model in the line is the correct answer. What installing a through-the-wall, ducted or split cooling unit involves sets out what the split route asks of the site.

✓ Ideal For

  • Cellars of 250 to 2,000 cubic feet, per Wine Guardian's own recommended volume
  • Sites with no practical way to exhaust condenser heat inside the building
  • Tight mechanical rooms where a single-box ducted unit will not fit
  • Condenser locations within 50 feet of the fan coil
  • Projects that want the system driven by an external thermostat or a building management system
  • Cold-climate condenser locations, with the Extreme Climate Protection Bundle

✕ Consider Another Model If

  • A self-contained ducted unit fits and can vent, which is a simpler single-box install
  • The only workable condenser location is more than 50 feet of line set away
  • The cellar is larger than 2,000 cubic feet, where the next model up in the Pro ducted split line begins
  • Running refrigerant lines between two units is not feasible in the building
  • Humidity control is required and no humidifier is being added

If the cellar volume is the open question rather than the configuration, start from the band: this store groups the SP25 with the other cooling units for cellars of 1,200 to 2,200 cubic feet, which is where most SP25 projects land.

Key Features

SP25 Pro Ducted Split Key Features

The SP25 Pro ducted split earns its Pro designation through controls, protection devices and serviceability rather than through extra capacity: the same 3,485 BTU/h at 80°F condenser inlet air arrives with 24 volt integration, pressure protection and a cold-climate option.

Feature What it means for your cellar
Two-piece ducted split design The ductable fan coil and the remote condensing unit mount in different places and connect through refrigerant lines, so the system fits sites where a single-box unit has nowhere to exhaust its heat.
Matched Wine Guardian condensing unit The condensing unit is engineered by Wine Guardian for this fan coil rather than paired in the field, which is what the published capacity ladder is measured on.
24 volt control, thermostat by others Pro-series 24 volt electronics let the system be driven by an external thermostat or a building management system instead of a proprietary controller only.
Pro protection package Wine Guardian's Pro series carries high and low pressure switches that stop the system cycling when it is undercharged, overcharged or leaking, and a sight glass that shows refrigerant volume during service.
Extreme Climate Protection Bundle option Wine Guardian describes this bundle as required for continuous operation in climates that fall below 20°F, and states that it enables the system to operate in temperatures as low as minus 20°F.
Electric heat option An electric heater option protects the cellar from dangerously low temperatures. Wine Guardian's own SP25 product page states that the heater's activation is adjustable from 2°F to 6°F below your setpoint; the heater wattage for this model is read from the Wine Guardian Pro Ducted Split specifications sheet rather than quoted here.
Optional humidification An optional Wine Guardian humidifier brings the cellar to 55% to 65% relative humidity. The SP25 does not control humidity without it.
Field serviceable multi-panel cabinet The Pro cabinet uses an innovative multipanel design with integral fasteners for service and maintenance, so routine work happens on site.
R-134a refrigerant and digital controls Wine Guardian's Pro ducted split systems use digital electronic controls and R-134a refrigerant.

Built-in protection: Wine Guardian's Pro series uses high and low pressure switches to stop the system cycling on and off when it is undercharged, overcharged or experiencing a leak.

How Quiet Is It

How Quiet Is the SP25 Pro Ducted Split?

Wine Guardian publishes no decibel rating for its Pro ducted split systems, so no dB figure for the SP25 appears anywhere on this page. What the configuration does guarantee is that the compressor is not in the wine room: on the SP25 the compressor sits in the remote condensing unit, and only the 90 watt fan coil is on the cellar side of the system. How a split system and a through-the-wall unit differ in where they send condenser heat is the trade-off that settles the configuration before the model.

Where the Noise Actually Goes

  • The condensing unit, which carries the compressor and a 75 watt condenser fan moving 275 CFM, installs away from the cellar and can be sited outdoors.
  • The fan coil mounts outside the wine room and connects through insulated ductwork, so the cellar hears duct air rather than machinery.
  • Flexible ductwork absorbs air noise, and each turn in the duct run takes a little more of it out.
  • Wine Guardian rates the fan coil at 236 CFM free blow and 226 CFM at 0.10 in w.c., so the duct system can be designed rather than guessed at.

Published Capacity by Condenser Inlet Air Temperature

Net cooling capacity for the SP25 as printed by Wine Guardian on the Pro Ducted Split specifications sheet, under the heading "Performance (57°/55%RH)". The rows are reproduced in the manufacturer's printed order and have not been re-sorted; capacity on this line does not fall in a straight line as the condenser inlet air gets hotter. Wine Guardian footnotes the sheet: all btuh capacity and airflow (CFM) values shown are at tested 230v applied on 208/230v rated units, and where the field application allows 208v applied to the dual-rated units you can generally expect 2.5% to 3.0% decreases in the values shown.

Condenser inlet air temperature Net cooling capacity, total / sensible (BTU/h)
@10°F 4,100 / 3,178
@40°F 3,793 / 3,178
@60°F 3,485 / 3,075
@80°F 3,485 / 3,178
@100°F 3,178 / 2,768
@115°F 2,973 / 2,563

Wine Guardian states on its ducted split category page that cooling capacity is rated at 80°F ambient, which is the row the 3,485 BTU/h headline comes from. Many variables affect proper unit sizing; confirm the final selection with a licensed HVAC professional.

Compatible Accessories

Compatible Accessories

Accessory availability and pricing are confirmed on each live product page. An integrated or freestanding Wine Guardian humidifier is the accessory that takes the cellar to 55% to 65% relative humidity; the SP25 does not control humidity without one.

Compare Across the Line

How the SP25 Compares to Other Wine Cellar Ducted Split Systems

Within the Pro line the SP25 is the smallest of four wine cellar ducted split systems, and the choice between them turns on three things: cellar volume, how far the condensing unit has to sit from the fan coil, and what voltage the fan coil circuit can supply. The wider set sits in the Wine Guardian ducted split wine cellar cooling systems collection.

Decision factor SP25 Pro SP50 Pro SP88 Pro
Recommended cellar volume, Wine Guardian 250 to 2,000 cu ft 650 to 3,000 cu ft 850 to 4,500 cu ft
Total capacity at 80°F condenser inlet air 3,485 BTU/h 6,458 BTU/h 9,840 BTU/h
Fan coil electrical supply 115 V, 1 phase, 60 Hz 115 V, 1 phase, 60 Hz 208-230 V, 1 phase, 60 Hz
Maximum refrigerant line set length 50 ft 90 ft 120 ft

Best for / not ideal for: choose the SP25 if the cellar is 2,000 cubic feet or under and the condensing unit lands within 50 feet of the fan coil on a standard 115 volt fan coil circuit. It is not ideal for cellars past 2,000 cubic feet or for condenser locations further than 50 feet away, where the SP50 is the model that is rated for the job; step to the SP88 only when the site can supply 208-230 volts to the fan coil as well as to the condensing unit. All three condensing units require 208-230 volts. Confirm the final selection with a licensed HVAC professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

SP25 Pro Ducted Split Questions

Does the SP25 need two separate electrical supplies?
Yes. Wine Guardian gives the SP25 fan coil as 115 volts, 1 phase, 60 Hz and the condensing unit as 208-230 volts, 1 phase, 60 Hz, so the two sections are fed separately. Circuit sizing and overcurrent protection are not published here; confirm them against the Wine Guardian Pro Ducted Split specifications sheet and a licensed electrician.
Can the SP25 be installed without an HVAC contractor?
No. The SP25 is a two-piece system joined by refrigerant lines that have to be routed, connected and charged on site, and Wine Guardian writes its Pro Ducted Split installation manual for a qualified contractor. Using one also keeps the manufacturer warranty intact.
Will the SP25 keep running if the condensing unit sits outdoors in winter?
Wine Guardian's Pro Ducted Split manual states that the condensing unit is designed to operate in ambient temperatures ranging from 20°F to 115°F. For colder sites Wine Guardian offers an Extreme Climate Protection Bundle, which it describes as required for continuous operation in climates that fall below 20°F and which enables the system to operate in temperatures as low as minus 20°F.
How far can the condensing unit be from the wine cellar?
Wine Guardian's Pro Ducted Split manual gives a maximum refrigerant line set length of 50 feet for the SP25. Larger models in the same line are rated for longer runs, so if the only workable condenser location sits beyond 50 feet the line set length becomes a model decision; raise it with a licensed HVAC contractor before the cellar is framed.
Why is the SP25 quoted instead of priced online?
The SP25 ships configured. Wine Guardian offers the base model, an electric heat option and an Extreme Climate Protection Bundle, and which combination is correct depends on where the condensing unit ends up and how cold that location gets. Send the cellar dimensions and the intended condenser location with a quote request and the configuration can be confirmed before anything is ordered.
What is a ducted split wine cellar cooling system?
A ducted split wine cellar cooling system separates the evaporator, or fan coil, from the condensing unit and joins them with refrigerant lines. The fan coil ducts cooled air into the cellar while the condensing unit rejects heat somewhere else entirely, which is what makes the configuration workable when there is nowhere inside the building to exhaust condenser heat.
How much cooling does the SP25 provide and what cellar size does Wine Guardian recommend?
Wine Guardian rates the SP25 at 3,485 BTU/h total at 80°F condenser inlet air and gives a recommended volume of 250 to 2,000 cubic feet. Net capacity moves with condenser inlet air temperature and the full published ladder is in the specifications above. Confirm final sizing with a licensed HVAC professional.
Does the SP25 control humidity?
Not on its own. Wine Guardian's Pro Ducted Split brochure states that an optional humidifier can be installed with the ability to achieve 55 to 65 percent relative humidity. Wine Guardian's Pro Ducted Split specifications sheet gives no usable per-model temperature or humidity accuracy figure for the SP25, and its controls block specifies 24 volt control with the thermostat by others, so accuracy depends on the controller supplied.
